A Comical ELEGY, On the Death of Evan Morgan, Son of Shon ap Morgan Shentleman of Wales, who Departed this Life in her Grandmothers Hen Roost, on St. Taffies Day, being the First of March 1700.

ATtend you Welch Men, while I do relate,
How Taffy fell by suddain cruel Fate,
It was her fortune last St. Taffies Day,
To sit and muse as many others may;
When on a suddain her Death Pangs came on,
And in spite of her Plud her life was gone:
All Welch Men sure will Mourn, and who can chuse,
When they do hear this strange unpleasent News:
Oh! cruel Fate, what harm has Taffy done,
That thou shouldst snatch away his Life so soon;
'Tis something hard thou couldst no longer stay,
But fetch her hence upon St. Taffies Day;
When her was feeding of her Granums Hens,
And thought for, her past crimes to make amends:
All her he Goates, and Female Kids, will Weep,
When they percive that morgan is Asleep:
Methinks I see, poor Taffy on his Knees,
With Knife in's hand a Toasting of his Cheese;
Methinks I see him eat it on a suddain,
And swar's it doth exceed our hasty Pudding:
Some think a Surfiet did her Vitals Seize,
Which was brought on by Eating toasted Cheese';
Yet others say who are of much more Skill,
That Leeks and Garlick, did poor morgan Kill;
He us'd no Physick but the Juice of Leeks,
And Liv'd on that same Diate many Weeks;
Red Herrings too, her thought a samous Dish,
And did affirm they were the King of Fish,
For better Victuals he did seldom wish:
But tho he's Dead, it cannot be deny'd,
Her Liv'd until the very Day her Dy'd,
But Greif prevails and gains upon my Spirits,
So that I must pass by his other Merits.
