FOr the better directions of those, into whose hands this Work shall come, and the method in which it is composed; be pleased to observe these things.

I. The designe of it is all along to keep close to Bible-order, which is gene­rally observed; albeit you must know, that always where divers Texts do contain in them one and the same Word or Sentence, such Texts are ranged together, as standing in a body represented at one view, making some altera­tion of the order, ex gr. under the Title Word Abundance. a. of sea, Deut. 33.19. Isa 60.5. where, because a. of sea is found in that Text of Isaiah, as well as in Deuteronomy, they stand together, though before 1 Sam. 1.16. which otherwise, to have kept exactly to Bible-order, should have been re­peated after a. of thy enchantments.

II. There are several parallel Texts not mentioned, being parallel, and already quoted; besides for the most part in Quarto Bibles and Octavo, as also some Twelves they will be found in the Margi­nal References.

III. Some Title-Words have nothing but Quotations under them, either because they are but few, and seldom found in Scripture, and therefore quickly perused, as in Abundant, Absent, Accept­ance, Access, &c. or if often, they are not of frequent use, or may be better found under more mate­rial words then the Title or Simple Theam is; and this happeneth most commonly, though not always in Undeclined Parts of Speech, as Above, Abundantly, &c.

IV. If you miss of any material Text among the Words and Sentences where properly you might have expected it, you will finde it either among the Various Acceptations, or standing immediately under the Title-Word; if in neither, you are but where the most compleat and largest Concordance doth sometimes leave you, viz. to search for it under some other word, so wilt thou as rarely miss of any Text desired, as in any Concordance whatever.

V. You may possibly (though seldom) miss a Text or two under some Derivative word, as in Parti­ciples, and in Second or Third Persons of Verbs, &c. which ordinarily may be found among the Vari­ous Acceptations of the Simple Theam, ex gr. in Raiseth you miss Psal. 113.7. r. out the poor out of the dust, and Psal. 107.25. r. the stormy wind; both which Texts you will finde in the Various Ac­ceptations under Raised: So in Redeeming you will miss Eph. 5.16. r. the time, which you will finde in the Various Acceptations under Redeemed, and thus frequently in many others; sometimes also the Verb in the Substantive, & contrà, as in Will Verb, and Willeth you will miss Phil. 2.13. both to w. and to do, and Rom. 9.16. not of him that w. both which you will finde in the Various Acceptati­ons in Will Substant, and in several others.

VI. You will very frequently finde in the Sentences several Particles to be understood, which, by them that know the use of Concordances, may readily be supplied to make up the Sense, as a. the, this, that, &c. Persons and Signs of Tenses, &c. which being repeated will commonly make the sense en­tire, or at least intelligible.

VII. Where you finde Figures without Scripture, you must refer it to the last Scripture mentioned and where one single Figure, it is a Verse of the foregoing Chapter.

If herein I have done any thing, that may contribute to the encrease of your knowledge in the Scri­ptures, I shall heartily rejoyce, and in a short time forget my long and tedious travail, for joy that the Work is brought forth to the profiting of the Church; which is the hearty prayer of
